How are the gardens maintained?

NEA conducts periodic ash soil transfer at the Garden of Peace and the Garden of Serenity. As scattered ashes accumulate over time and the IAS lanes reach capacity, ash soil from the lanes at both gardens will be respectfully transferred to a designated location within the Garden of Peace at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery. This ensures that the lanes remain available for continued use by members of the public. Lanes scheduled for ash soil transfer will undergo a three-month rest period, during which they will be closed to new ash scattering. NEA will ensure that there will always be lanes available for use.

Who is eligible to apply for inland ash scattering?

Inland ash scattering is available for the cremated ashes of deceased who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents, or foreigners who passed away in or outside of Singapore with immediate next-of-kin who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents. Applications must be submitted online via the NEA ePortal (www.eportal.nea.gov.sg). Applicants are required to bring the confirmation slip and cremated ashes to the Ash Collection Centre, where the remains will be processed into fine ashes before proceeding to the IAS facility for scattering.

How much does inland ash scattering cost?

Inland ash scattering is one of the most affordable ash management options. There is a one-time booking fee of $320 (inclusive of canister), payable at the time of application. There are no ongoing maintenance fees.

What are the available locations for ash scattering?

There are two designated Gardens for inland ash scattering in Singapore: the Garden of Peace at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery Complex, and the Garden of Serenity next to Mandai North Crematorium building. Both gardens are beautifully maintained green spaces with scattering lanes set amidst landscaped surroundings.

Can I visit the scattering site after the ceremony?

Yes, both the Garden of Peace and Garden of Serenity are open to the public during operating hours (9am to 5.30pm). You are welcome to visit the Garden at any time. While there is no individual marker for each scattering, the Gardens serve as shared remembrance spaces where families can return to remember their loved ones within a serene and tranquil setting.
